What the data shows
Five findings from 504 responses, 247 products named, and 3,282 source citations.
Chaos leads, but four vendors dominate the answer
Chaos is named in 120 of the 126 prompts and scores 77.0 on equal engine weight. Epic Games follows at 64.1, D5 at 46.2, and Lumion at 28.0. Fifth place goes to Blender Foundation at 8.7, a gap of 19.3 points, and no vendor below fourth reaches 16 percent coverage on any engine. Together the top four take 66.6 percent of all visualization vendor mentions. Chaos holds first through breadth: five of its products clear the inclusion floor, covering concept work, design iteration, and production rendering.
The four engines are not describing the same market
Lumion is named in 53.2 percent of ChatGPT prompts and 12.7 percent of Gemini prompts. Unreal Engine runs the other way, at 20.6 percent on ChatGPT against 46.8 percent on Gemini. D5 Render reaches 62.7 percent on ChatGPT, its best figure anywhere, and lands between 38 and 43 percent on the other three. Copilot is the narrowest of the four, with 37 of its answers naming one visualization product or none at all. A buyer's shortlist depends heavily on which assistant they happen to open.
Visibility comes from two separate mechanisms
For every vendor mention we checked whether the same answer cited that vendor's own website. Products released before 2015 are supported that way in 44.6 percent of their mentions, against 58.7 to 60.9 percent for everything newer. On Google's two engines the gap widens to 18.9 percent against 32.5 to 34.1 percent. Twinmotion and Unreal Engine are named on Gemini and AI Mode almost entirely on reputation, with their vendor's site behind 7 and 6 percent of those mentions. A long-established vendor can do very little AEO work and still rank, because the engines remember it. A newer product has to be found, which puts its visibility in the hands of content it publishes.
Buyer situation changes the answer more than anything else
The six personas produce six different leaderboards. Concept exploration is the sharpest break: an independent AI-era newcomer appears in 19 of its 21 prompts, against 18 of the 105 prompts across the other five personas combined. LookX, launched in 2023, ranks second there, ahead of D5, Epic, and Lumion, and six of the top ten are AI image vendors. Immersive work is a separate market again, where Arkio takes all 11 of its appearances in the study. Lumion sits fourth overall and ninth in concept exploration.
The design tool sets the frame
Revit is the most-named product in a visualization study at 64.3, and not one prompt mentions it. Rhino, SketchUp, and Archicad also outrank several core renderers. Design authoring tools take 27.6 percent of all product mentions against 43.6 percent for core visualization. The engines organize visualization answers around the host application, so "which renderer works inside Revit" is the frame a vendor competes inside. Thirteen prompts describe a BIM model without naming the software, and Revit was named in response to all thirteen.
